| ISSUE 040 · MATERIALS, CAPACITY, CONVERSION | |
| Everyone is counting shells. The European Union has targets for 155mm ammunition. The United States has targets. There are briefings, dashboards, and congressional hearings about how many rounds per month are coming off the line. Now tell me who makes the barrel that fires the round. | |
| The cannon tube is a forged steel cylinder, typically fifteen to thirty feet long, at the center of every howitzer and tank gun. It wears out with use, must be replaced, and in the United States one facility makes it: Watervliet Arsenal, a government-owned plant on the Hudson River in upstate New York, operating since 1813. Its rotary forge dates to the 1970s. | |
| On 21 October 2026 the Army posted a Sources Sought notice on SAM.gov for the M284A2 155mm cannon tube, seeking commercial manufacturers who could produce ten barrels per month within thirty-six months, as reported by Defense News on 22 October. A 2024 Pentagon reprogramming document stated that demand for replacement 155mm tubes exceeded thirty per month and that Watervliet could not meet it. | |

Ominous New Day in America (Get Ready for it)
A market legend is predicting a monumental and historic event (which could unfold in as little as 24 hours) is about to hit America.
He says it will change the fortunes of average Americans forever.
Not just in the stock market. But how they bank, how they are paid from their jobs, how their insurance policies work and how their businesses operate every single day.
Keep in mind this legend has made some shocking predictions over 55 years. And the crazy thing is the accuracy of his predictions are usually dead-on target.
He predicted the double-digit inflation of the 1970s. The collapse of the S&L banks and the "Black Monday" stock crash in the 1980s. The dot-com collapse and the implosion of Fannie Mae, Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers in the 2000s.
He's testified before Congress. And The New York Times has credited him as being "the first to see the dangers."
This is bigger than AI, bigger than the midterms, bigger than oil prices and bigger than what's happening in the Middle East. And it's already impacting thousands of Americans.
This legend has just issued a free video to warn the public.
For most, it will be a rude awakening. We want as many Americans as possible to see this.
This legend explains exactly what's happening along with a few simple steps to protect yourself, and even come out ahead.
| PLATE · U.S. MACHINE TOOL PRODUCTION, CIRCA 1982 |
| In the early 1980s the United States was the largest producer of machine tools in the world, holding roughly 20 percent of the global market, according to a 2025 Information Technology and Innovation Foundation report. In 1981 output was valued at $5.1 billion. Cincinnati Milacron and Brown & Sharpe were names every manufacturing engineer knew. |
| In March 1983 the National Machine Tool Builders Association petitioned the Secretary of Commerce for import relief on national security grounds. Three years passed before President Reagan announced he would seek voluntary restraint agreements with Japan, Taiwan, West Germany, and Switzerland on 20 May 1986. Over the next few years, more than two-thirds of American machine tool firms closed, according to the ITIF. |
| The decline from first to third in global production took under a decade and proved largely irreversible. The UK followed a parallel path with gun barrels: the Royal Ordnance Factory Nottingham, which opened in 1936, closed in 2001. About twenty-five years of zero domestic production followed. |
| PLATE · RHEINMETALL UK GUN HALL, TELFORD, SHROPSHIRE | |||
| On 22 October 2026 Rheinmetall officially opened what it calls the UK Gun Hall in Telford, Shropshire. UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting attended the ceremony. The facility makes barrels and breeches for 120mm and 155mm weapon systems, including those for the Challenger 3 tank and future artillery platforms, and is the first site producing large-caliber gun barrels in Britain since 2001. | |||
| Rheinmetall states the 11,500-square-meter facility can produce up to 245 barrels per year across both calibers and more than 50 breeches annually at peak capacity. The company went from an empty building to breech production in May 2026 and barrel production in June 2026, with workers trained at Rheinmetall’s plant in Unterlüß, Germany. | |||
| Rheinmetall currently employs around 685 people in Telford, including 35 at the Gun Hall. | |||
